Why is this so difficult?!

I just finished the first season of Supergirl on Netflix yesterday, only to find that they don't have season two up yet. I'm aware it's a corny, iffy show, but I just am in the frame of mind for lighthearted, corny shows at the moment. So, I thought I'd Google to see when Netflix might be getting season two.

Well, it turns out that season two aired on The CW in America, rather than CBS, which is what season one aired on. Which explains why when I went to Global, which showed season one here in Canada, they sent me to Showcase, whom, I assumed picked it up after CBS/Global dropped it? I don't know. Anyway, they have the last three episodes of the season to stream, which doesn't help me. And apparently CW has a deal with Netflix to get their shows up eight days after airing, but in Canada, the other DC CW shows (Arrow, Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, etc) are on CraveTV, a different streaming app to which I am not subscribed because they don't have enough content I want to watch to make it worth my while and also I can't get it on my TV without a third party device that would cost me about $200, and, since Mom and I watch a lot of stuff together and you can't sync an iPad to another automatically, it's hard to find a way for us both to watch something if we can't get it up on the TV. But a quick browse suggests that they don't have Supergirl on there either, anyway.

So the question remains, will Canadian Netflix get season two? And when? Murdoch Mysteries switched channels halfway through its run and the first several seasons have disappeared from existence because no one seems to have the rights to them anymore, is this going to be another sort of limbo thing?

I can't find out about Supergirl because when I Google, all the results tell me it's up on the American Netflix. And I can't get American Netflix because licensing is stupid.

This could, of course, probably be solved in a dodgy manner, but I do my best to get content as legally as possible. I suppose there's always iTunes.

I wish I could help! I didn't realize you would have that problem. Maybe it will just take a while, since the season just ended here? Some things only show up after a season ends. Brilliant Husband watches Game of Thrones and I think another show entirely off Netflix discs, and he has to wait until the season is well over to get them.

It's absolutely possible it's just a time issue, but Netflix in the States already has it up so no one will tell me when it might be available in Canada because if you Google it, even with 'Netflix Canada', it will still tell you 'available now!' because the Americans have it. And, of course, in the grand scheme of the world, this isn't a huge problem, but it's annoying. :p

Do you guys have Netflix by mail? We don't have options for discs in Canada. We used to have an awesome service called Zip that sent DVDS by mail, but it went under. I loved that service, they had really obscure stuff on there and you just put everything on your 'Zip list' in the order you were interested in it and they sent the ones they had available as best they could to match your preferences. The only problem was if you wanted a TV show and someone else had lost the first disc of the season, you were out of luck because they weren't going to buy a whole new set of discs. I really miss it. Not only could you get stuff you couldn't find in my very small town, but it was exciting to open up your mailbox and see what was there.

Oh, man! I didn't realize you couldn't get Netflix by mail up there. We have both Netflix on the tv and by mail: a lot of stuff is directly accessible on the tv, but many things (apparently mostly less watched things) are by DVD only. It costs more to have both, but Brilliant Husband uses the mail service quite enough to make it worthwhile; we all watch it on tv.

So sorry! Yes, it's really annoying when you have a hankering and much of the world has already seen it, but you can't get it. My family plus one of my friends are currently awaiting the third season of Broadchurch, which apparently aired in the UK, and we have waited months and months just to get an air date—while everyone else just downloaded it illegally.

I miss the days when one could just videotape a show and ship it to someone elsewhere. It was perfectly legal, though UK-North America required someone with a converter. I watched a lot of what was then new Doctor Who in the late 80s that way. If I could send you tapes of Supergirl, I would.

Oh, cool that you have the mail option. The streaming option for Netflix is good, I've seen a lot of stuff I missed when it was airing, but it's so haphazard and hard to find things on, I'd be happy to go back to a mail service if it gave me more choice. As it stands, I don't know of any way to actually rent movies where I am. We had Redbox for two seconds but they took them out within a few months. We have Netflix, CraveTv, and just recently Amazon Prime, which I was excited about until I realized that, of course, the content is different in Canada, so all the stuff I saw on Amazon.com is not available on Amazon.ca. The only thing I've watched on it was the last two seasons of Community that aren't up on Netflix, and the old tv version of Cinderella that was my mum's favourite growing up. And CraveTv has a few shows I'd definitely give a go if they were on Netflix but not enough of a draw to get me to pay a separate ten bucks a month for.

Our cable company has a Pay Per View service that we use sometimes for newer releases, too. It has the recording of the Newsies Broadway musical that I didn't even know existed until last Monday when I stumbled on it and proceeded to be the most amazing thing ever.

I hadn't even thought about tapes! Our family never recorded much on the VCR, but my mom was great about driving all around town to hunt down the old movie musicals I wanted to see. We were avid renters. I miss Jumbo Video. :-(
