Support Your Local Station!
Nov. 17th, 2025 10:11 amHey, if anyone ever needs another reason to support your local PBS station, I wrote to mine about a scheduling issue that caused my DVR to cut off the last 30 minutes of Twefth Night on Friday (not sure which end was the issue, but it only gave it a 90 minute slot instead of two hours) and the person there told me I can't watch it on Passport because of rights issues (one of the few downsides to living in Canada), so they put a rerun on the schedule for me to watch on Dec 4th. They apologized they could only do it at 4AM. Like, dude, you have rescheduled TV for me, I'm not complaining about when you do it.
So, that's awesome and very kind, and my little heart is very chuffed by it. By the way, it's a very enjoyable production and I highly recommend. I like a lot of what they did with the staging and characters, and the performers nailed it.
Anyway, support PBS!

Date: 2025-11-23 11:30 pm (UTC)Our PBS station for years routinely messed up data they sent to TiVo. I wrote to them once, and they ignored it. . . . I might be in a bigger market, though.
They have become much better about communicating with TiVo, and we do have Passport because we're in the States. I really should increase my donation, now that my government has cut off all its funding (despite my many phone calls).

Date: 2025-11-24 12:21 am (UTC)That's the impression I got! I'm not sure if other people also asked about it, but the wording of it made me feel like she was doing it for me, lol.
We have Passport as well, but some of the content doesn't work in Canada because of rights issues. She wrote back a while later to say that she had doubled checked and thought Twelfth Night would be available in Canada after all, but she'd keep the showing on for me just in case. And it is up there now, it just took a few days, but it was still lovely of her to do that. We have a great local PBS station. We get two here, one from Syracuse, NY and one from Detroit (we call them the 'little PBS station' and the 'big PBS station' respectively) and the one from Syracuse is routinely lovely. They make a huge effort to show lots of diverse programming and not to be constantly pledging, where it feels like the Detroit station shows the same five programs over and over and is always pledging. Unfortunately, the little PBS station is struggling from the funding cuts. I'm hoping they'll manage to stay float. :-(
