It's another meme! From the lovely [livejournal.com profile] joonscribble (again).

Pick a paragraph (or any passage less than 500 words) from any fanfic I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

You can find my fics via memories (not up-to-date) and tags (links to the left).

I choose you!: “I need the whirly one with the whoosh,” Kaylee said, gesturing nonsensically.

I wrote this fic shortly after coming home from the cottage, where my mum and I worked on two jigsaw puzzles. The first we did all the picture section of, but it had several inches of plain yellow border and we didn't have the patience to try to figure out which exactly the same coloured yellow piece went where. The second we didn't have time to finish, nor we were inclined to - it was almost worse than the first.

In any case, this is how my mum and I communicate with each other when doing puzzles. Because how else do you describe puzzle pieces?

I also liked the idea that Kaylee and Wash had been doing this so long - and this particular puzzle so long, that Wash could understand what she wanted even though it wouldn't make sense to any one else. They are the ones left behind all the time, so I figured they would be close to each other in that respect. Also, Wash is just 'off' enough to understand some of Kaylee's more unusual thought patterns.
