Give me the name of a character that I write or have written, and I'll give you 3-5 things I associate with that character—items they might own, clothes they might wear, decor in their living spaces, colours or music that suits them, images that remind me of them, facts from my head canon, etc.

Feel free to ask for more than one character. OCs and AU versions welcome.

As I discovered and fell in love with your Sherlock stories on AO3 last month and particularly enjoyed "An Extended Stay", which featured the best Molly Hooper portrayal that I've encountered in fic so far, I'd love to hear your thoughts on her.
(Sorry for this terribly long sentence!)

Oh, thank you so much! Nice to meet you. :-D

- Colour synesthesia for her name:
- 'Molly' is a pet name for Margaret, but literally no one ever uses her full name.
- Molly's cow oven mitt (http://postimg.org/image/reph4cmyv/)
- Molly's tea pot (http://postimg.org/image/47tbnk903/)
- Her degree is in Biomedical Sciences, and she graduated from Imperial College London

Thanks for the answer - that's brilliant. Where do you get all those ideas?
The teapot is hilarious! Let's just hope that Toby doesn't take it for a playmate and accidently breaks it.
And I want that cow oven mitt! :)

By the way, I hope you don't mind that I added you to my friends list in order to keep up with any possible writing updates of yours.

I am far too obsessive about the details of my stories, so I wind up with all sorts of stuff I have no idea what to do with.

You're very welcome here! I don't mind at all.

I'm going to try and not be obvious (oh nevermind):

BBC Sherlock's Mycroft Holmes, please!

From: [identity profile] awanderingbard.livejournal.com
Never not be obvious, m'dear. ILU!

-Colour synesthesia for his name:
-Both his pocket watch and the gold ring he wears are his father's.
-Quite a good artist (seven years as an only child being doted on by Grand-maman meant a lot of tutelage), but lacks the work ethic to do much with it.
-I haven't finished it yet, but the Holmes Penthouse (where Mycroft sometimes lives) looks roughly like this (http://postimg.org/image/z0gchriuv/full/). (Please ignore strange man in the loo, he's there for scale purposes)

I love the floor plan! (And it's fine to have a strange man in the loo as long as you remember to include a loo! I feel like I ought to be tagging some of my entries and comments: tag: toilet obsession)

Thanks, it's loosely based on a real London flat, and all those polygons screamed Holmes to me.

I always put toilets in my floor plans, if that eases your mind at all.

I had a toilet issues for a number of years, and the location and beauty of toilets is something I rank as very important.

Always know where your toilet is (apologies to Douglas Adams). As long as they're not filthy, I don't worry about their aesthetics very much.

But I should add that we got a rose-colored toilet for my daughter's bathroom, to match part of the wallpaper, at her request. We've moved since, and the toilet is one of a very few things I miss about that house.

I just want you to know that I clicked the link to find the man in the loo, though I could not clearly define the compulsion that was causing me to do so. XD

That said, it's a lovely living space! Definitely suits him. :)

Ha! Awesome! It only makes me respect you more. The man is in most of my rough floor plans (sometimes more than one of him) to help me make sure things are placed at the right height and are usable in size. Working in miniature understandably makes everything look too small.

Date: 2013-07-19 08:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dustlines.livejournal.com
Oh, good! I'm glad my wanting to peek at a tiny virtual man in the loo is a positive in my favor! Haha. It's a wise precaution, I think, to have people properly sized for whatever is being made. :)

It shows you have a good sense of curiosity, which is very admirable, Ash.

The first thing I ever designed had huge windows (purposely) and made the scale of everything else look tiny by comparison, so I'm always very careful that things are the size they should be. There are a few different people models that come with the programme, but that one is my favourite because he looks very unimpressed at having to stand there.

Okay, here's Jack (I've not seen much past Series Two of TW, so I have no actual canon from that time period)

-Colour Synesthesia for his name:
- Accidentally 'wrote' a number of WWII songs due to them having a revival in popularity when he was a child. He sang them, and they caught on in WWII period, but they hadn't been written yet. It's a stable time loop.
- Likes to dance, a lot, and knows hundreds of styles from many time periods and galaxies. Will demonstrate if you get him drunk enough.

Bob—from the show, if you can manage. I've only read two of the books so far (and find that Bob not very interesting, but then, he's basically a plot device rather than a character).

Date: 2013-07-19 11:25 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] awanderingbard.livejournal.com
TV!Bob is an amalgam of a number of characters from the books--Bob, Michael, Thomas. Book!Bob is basically snark and exposition in a bottle, though he does get some characterization in the later novels.

-Colour Synthesia for his name: of aka
- Had an older brother and a younger sister (she died shortly after birth)
-Winifred looks very much like Waterhouse's Lady of Shalott (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/83/JWW_TheLadyOfShallot_1888.jpg) in my mind.
- My mental image of Bob always has him wearing something like this (http://postimg.org/image/ochbox339/), though I'm fairly sure he didn't wear anything like that on the show.
- Was very fond of his owner during the Victorian era and bases most of his wardrobe on his style.

Ooh, Malcolm is intersting. Hmm.

-Colour synesthesia for his name:
-Watched a lot of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movies on the road, and taught Harry how to foxtrot.
- Kept a bottle of dirt from Maggie's grave, since he travelled too much to visit it regularly. Harry has it now, as well as a bottle from Malcolm's grave.
- He always read to Harry before bed, long past the age Harry should have grown out of it. He did all the voices, and when Harry re-reads some of his childhood favourites, he sometimes mimic the voices to himself because they sound wrong otherwise.

This is so great! I love that you added your color synesthesia associations for each character. Oddly, I look at the colors you've chosen, and I find they suit everyone ridiculously well, even though I don't have color synesthesia myself. Beautiful to look at. What color associations do you have with Harry, if I may ask?

And aww, these facts are so bittersweet and believable. I can see Harry carrying on the bottle of dirt tradition, out of love and to remember his parents. The reading in different voices is totally something Malcolm would have done for Harry, too.

Thank you for this! I love your character interpretations. <3

It's odd how much green and orange my characters have. I wonder if that's what attracts me to them? A lot of my stories are green, too.

Thank you for this! I love your character interpretations. <3

Thanks, dear! Scrib and I were talking last night about how we have more headcanon than stories to put it in. I like these memes for that reason. :D

From: [identity profile] dustlines.livejournal.com
I don't think that's odd at all. I think most authors, once they find a favorite way to write, start developing a certain "color palette" that defines their personal style! Perhaps you should write an autumn story with pumpkins in it. :)

Scrib and I were talking last night about how we have more headcanon than stories to put it in. I like these memes for that reason. :D

Hee! I like that about memes, too, and 'Scrib is a delight to craft headcanons with. I actually rented and watched Skyfall last night so that I could better understand your Skyfall/Sherlock crossover. :D

Oh, that actually sounds really appealing. Pumpkins with green leaves.

I found it interesting that both Harry and Fay (his daughter in my AU) verse, have forest green first names. The whole family actually have a combination of green and orange names. I didn't even mean to do that!

Yeah, Scrib and I get into epic comment fests bout headcanons. It's hard to stop once you get rolling.

I'm replying ages late, I'm so sorry! I've been really scattered lately. But yes, I did enjoy Skyfall! Q was awesome, and I liked how one of the prevailing themes of the movie was growing up and finding peace with one's own limitations. Interesting stuff, for an action movie. Particularly a Bond movie, which I've assumed for so long should be riddled with devil-may-care attitudes, etc.... It was a pleasant surprise!

I think the newest Bond movies have found a great balance between exciting action and serious drama. For all that Bond sleeps around, the new Bond girls are very capable in their own ways, and there is a general theme that violence against women is intolerable, and Bond will hunt you down if you hurt someone under his protection.

I've noticed! You two make excellent theories, too. Always fun to watch those form. :D

They've produced many a fic for both parties, so it's highly useful, too. :D

I'm glad you enjoyed it, and it was sweet to watch it for us. If you haven't seen the other Craig movies, they are also good. But they don't have Q in them. But they are good.
