Me: *eating cereal, pauses* Do you suppose you could use Sherlock's coat to blanket pull him?
Mum: *typing an e-mail, no hesitation* Oh yeah, for sure.

This is also the woman who very thoughtfully debated with me about whether or not Gladstone would be best to stay with Sherlock when Abby first comes home from the hospital, or stay with John and meet her right away, and suggested that when he does meet her, it should be at John's house, and not Sherlock's because 'I don't think Sherlock would be very happy about having a baby around and the dog would pick up on that'.

It's nice to have a fellow geek so near at hand.

Yes, the age gap does balance out the relationship a bit. Sherlock is clearly cleverer but John has knowledge you just get from living your life that Sherlock hasn't quite gotten yet.

And John had a life on fast-forward from being in the army, too. He has more experience than most men his age do. He's world-weathered, where Sherlock just likes to think he is.

That's the other thing--I'm not sure if I could buy Matt Smith as an ex-soldier.
