Me: *eating cereal, pauses* Do you suppose you could use Sherlock's coat to blanket pull him?
Mum: *typing an e-mail, no hesitation* Oh yeah, for sure.
This is also the woman who very thoughtfully debated with me about whether or not Gladstone would be best to stay with Sherlock when Abby first comes home from the hospital, or stay with John and meet her right away, and suggested that when he does meet her, it should be at John's house, and not Sherlock's because 'I don't think Sherlock would be very happy about having a baby around and the dog would pick up on that'.
It's nice to have a fellow geek so near at hand.

Date: 2014-01-16 06:13 pm (UTC)My mom once suggested that I print out some of my fic so that she could read it. Um, maybe not: she has never seen any of the shows for which I've written. I was excited when she finally started watching Sherlock that maybe we could have a fandom in common—but she quit watching after "The Hounds of Baskerville." Why the frell did she quit after "Hounds"? She said she didn't like it very much.
Well, it's not as if she had a fannish personality anyway.
It's great that your mom is not only understanding but helpful!

My mum hasn't read any of my fic, though she's heard a bit of it as I read it to my brother's ex-girlfriend. I don't know if I'd feel comfortable with her reading it. I don't know why, I don't write anything smutty or anything, but it's a bit mine, I guess. She does let me natter to her, though, and always answers my weird medical queries.

Huh. Hounds is my favourite Series Two episode. It has issues, mostly in regards to drugging John, but I was so happy to have Sherlock back to being realistic and John back to not worshiping him after Scandal, that I sort of can overlook that. Or at least have a headcanon that they discussed it further at a later point in time.
My personal opinion is that Gatiss forgets about John's PTSD and fails to think about how what Sherlock is doing would be triggering to him. That bit on the train at the end of Hearse is the same. Not something you do to a man who has genuinely almost been blown up for real.

Date: 2014-01-17 04:54 am (UTC)My mom has that interesting quality where she'll hate-watch something but still ask questions that many a fan has asked. For example, she wondered what it said on John's CV in "Blind Banker." She was quite pleased when I found someone on the Internet had typed the entire thing out to share.
