First all: Agent Carter, please continue to be amazing, and also stop toying with my emotions because I can't write fic fast enough to deal with them all.

Second, I mentioned a bit ago that I was playing the Avengers Academy game on my iPad, and that the gameplay was meh but the rest of it was amazing. I've kept up with it, and the gameplay has grown on me, but it's still one of those games that you do something and then have to wait for a long time to do something else with. And it's so entertaining, you'd like to be able to faster. But the amount of detail and thought put into all of it is incredible. Like, let's take a minute to appreciate emo!teen Loki, wearing his 1930s 'Midgardian' swimsuit, a boater hat with horns, and swimming in a pool with a Jörmungandr floaty:

Or the fact that Tony gets his drinks served at the club by a robot:

And then there are the things the characters say when you click on them. Cap's make me laugh the most, because it sounds like Tony programmed the game and came up with 'Cap' things for him.

Some of Caps lines:
"Follow me!"
"Just like the good old days!"
"Let's be the best we can be."
"Move it, soldier!"
"Let's give 'em everything we've got."
"If we stick together, nothing can stop us."
"Avengers assemble!"

So, yeah. Well done, Tiny Co. I salute your spot on characterizations. My only complaint is that, so far, two of the three 'playable' female characters are somewhat boy obsessed and air headed. I don't know enough about Wasp or Enchantress to know if that's accurate or not. Natasha, however, is delightfully bored and suspicious.

I really appreciate you giving us these gems so I don't have to sit through the game itself because I have no time whatsoever.

Also: yes, I cannot emotionally keep up with Agent Carter. This show is making me feel all sorts of things which I guess is the hallmark of a good show. As a viewer, last season felt really straightforward: I loved everything I saw. It was all amazing. This season I've had some moments where I frowned but not in a "why is this show sucking?" kind of way but more in a "I don't know how I feel about this. Give me a minute" sort of way.

It actually might be a good game for you. There's a not of waiting around.

I kind of want this game or something similar to exist in the SuperKids verse, though. Just because I can see JJ playing it, and Steve frowning each time game!him says something cliche.

Steve: What are you doing?
JJ: I have to collect 30 textbooks and 35 medals to recruit you to the school.
Steve: So, I'm just standing there doing jumping jacks and pushups while I'm waiting for you to recruit me?
JJ: Yep. I got your shield back for you, though.
Steve: Uh, thanks.

This season I've had some moments where I frowned but not in a "why is this show sucking?" kind of way but more in a "I don't know how I feel about this. Give me a minute" sort of way.

It's amazing to me how much devotion they've put into character development and building the universe-to-come for a show that should be an action adventure series. All the scenes with Jarvis and Ana in the hospital didn't need to happen. They didn't advance the main plot. But they developed the characters and the relationships, and were some of my favourites. Jarvis trying to get the radio to work, and telling her she's perfect, and guh. And paralleled oddly by Frost and Manfredi's relationship, which despite them both being bad people, is, like, really kind of stable and healthier than a lot of relationships we see on most shows.

I mean, yes, I've had some frowny moments of disapproval at character's actions and words, but not, as you said, because they were badly written, just because I didn't agree with them.

I just...like, really love this show.

Yeah, I was kind of surprised that I liked their chemistry. Frost is an interesting villain for me. I like that we got her backstory and while it is straightforward, I appreciate that it puts her actions in a certain light. There are moments when I kind of like/feel bad for her and other times when I'm mortified I ever felt that way. It's complicated. So wonderfully complicated.

Hee! But you know that Tony would 100% approve of how he's portrayed.

Tony: Wait, was that me?
JJ: It's game you.
Tony: Oh, for a second I thought you were playing a voicemail I left you.

Yeah, I was kind of surprised that I liked their chemistry.

Me, too. There were moments when I went 'aww, that's sweet' and then was like 'but they are bad people!', but then went 'but look, he found her a waste disposal facility because he believes in her, that's really nice'. But bad!

It's complicated. So wonderfully complicated.

I've liked the shades we've seen on most characters this season. They've done a good job with Thompson, too. Every time I feel like he's not so bad, he does something to change my mind, and then does something to make me question whether he means well again, or at least doesn't have a point.

Tony: Wait, was that me?
JJ: It's game you.
Tony: Oh, for a second I thought you were playing a voicemail I left you.

Hee!

Five minutes later:

Tony: I have to wait?! I have to wait for this? But...what happens next? Five hours. I'm not waiting five hours. How do I make it go faster?
JJ: You can use gem shards, but they cost real money to--
Tony: 139.99 for 2000? That sounds reasonable. *buys four packs*
JJ: Can I have my tablet back?
Tony: No. I'll buy you a new tablet.

Yeah, I'm often thinking, "If only they believed in one another and supported each other doing good things. But...I guess it's nice that they have each others backs...doing bad things, though..."

JJ: Can I have my tablet back?
Tony: No. I'll buy you a new tablet.

Hee! I can see Tony absently throwing in he'll buy JJ a car too to sweeten the deal when JJ says he'd really just like his own tablet back.

I wonder why they broke up in the first place? Did Frost think she'd be better off with Chadwick? Was she worried about the reputation in Hollywood because of dating a gangster?

For that matter, I hope we find out what happened between Peggy and Sousa before the season ends.

Hee! I can see Tony absently throwing in he'll buy JJ a car too to sweeten the deal when JJ says he'd really just like his own tablet back.

JJ: it's just I have pictures and stuff, on there?
Tony: Don't worry, I won't look at your dick pics. I have a code of honour.
JJ: I meant, like, drawing references.
Tony: Naked drawing references?
JJ: No.
Tony: okay, if I don't find one inappropriate picture on here, I'm going to be disappointed. No cars.
JJ: I'd rather have a motorcycle.
Tony: Deal.

Oh, God. I just finally recruited Cap in my game and the first quest for him is that he's running for class president. Tony tells him that's cool and no one else is running against him,but Cap says he believes in elections and wil run anyway. So now he and Tony are running a campaign. I love this game so hard,

Also the splash screen for recruiting him says he knows we can win if we work together as a team, but if you have to bring your phones, please put them on vibrate.

Yeah, I'm guessing Frost was too ambitious and she knew that staying with Manfredi wouldn't give her the kind of recognized influence she wanted. And knowing Manfredi, he probably admired her for her ambition while also being jealous. Which..again, kind of sweet but they are not nice people.

but if you have to bring your phones, please put them on vibrate.

I get the feeling one of the first things Steve became familiar with when learning new tech was learning what was deemed polite and proper behavior. You don't text and check your phone when on a date, you silence them when in movies and in meetings, etc.

And again, still a better relationship than gets portrayed in a lot of media.

There had to be a few meetings at SHIELD when Cap's phone went off, and he got redder and redder as he muttered about putting it on silent and do not disturb, and he's so sorry for being unprofessional, and very interested in what you have to say, and why does he even carry this thing, he got along fine without it befo--

Steve: Okay! Got it. Right. So...um, yeah, mission. Let's plan that.

Speaking of things Cap had to learn, there was a comment I read once about how at the end of the Avengers, nobody attempts CPR on Tony because Steve doesn't know it's been invented, Thor probably isn't familiar with it, and the Hulk is the Hulk. And it made me want to write a fic where Fury makes Steve and Thor take a First Aid class.

Teacher: Right, so you come across a person who isn't breathing. What's the first thing you do?
Steve: Uh, apply pressure to the abdomen and raise their feet above their head. And rub their chest.
Thor: Summon a healer to administer the Elixir of Life.
Teacher: Well, those are certainly options...

Natasha: But let's first plan how we're all never going to let you forget what you just did.

I know. That says a lot about what the media is telling us is a "good" relationship.

Ha! I'm picturing Issie taking the phone from Steve and sitting on it, with her ears back in embarrassment.

I was nervous about what they were going to do with Jarvis and Ana when I heard they were bringing her in, since there was so much that could go wrong for it, but I'm really pleased with how they've written her and them. I like that Ana has her own life outside of being Jarvis' wife, and takes an interest in what he's doing, and has her own skills that are of use. I mean, granted, I wouldn't want either of them to have to go through what they did over the last few episodes (my version of Ana's fertility was, unsurprisingly, not as angsty), but as a couple, I really enjoy them.

I would like to see Ana and Howard interact, though. Just so I know what they're like together for fic purposes.

I was so shocked when they shot Ana. I mean, I knew it could happen but somehow the slightly elevated zany quality of this season made me feel like they wouldn't go there. But they did. Still, it was handled pretty well, I thought. I think I put Ana and Jarvis into the whole "No Angst for [insert character here]" campaign along with Steve Rogers after the last few episodes, though.

One of the things I was worried about was them hurting Ana in some way when they brought her in. I checked on IMDB after the episode to make sure the actress was in the rest of the episodes, because Ana is expendable, and I didn't think they would treat her like that, but I wanted to be sure.

As soon as Frost shot her, though, I knew it would result in her not being able to have kids. I had already headcanoned them not having kids, but my version just had it being an inability to conceive due to unknown reasons. Now I have all these feels that require ficcage. Damn this show!

I hope we get a third season.

I'm almost glad now I still haven't finished that fic from god knows when where Howard proposed and was rejected by Maria. Now I can try to incorporate more actual canon.

I didn't think Ana would die but when she got shot, I also predicted this meant she wouldn't be able to have kids. The whole idea fits in well with why we never hear Tony mention Jarvis having had children and why it made sense Jarvis raised Tony like a son in a lot of ways.

I really hope for a third season as well. I also hope that the network showing two episodes back to back each week has more to do with timing and wanting to finish before Agents of SHIELD return rather than them trying to burn through episodes because the ratings are too low.

I have a fic I started a few weeks ago that required dancing around the kid issue, and now that it's canon, I have been writing like a mad thing because it all suddenly works much better.

Also, when your schedule allows, I will be very happy to have the rest of that fic. :-D

Yes, this. And that's what I like about the show, that they're building and adding these sorts of things that set up the later on universe. I'm still waiting for them to reveal that Sousa was rescued by Steve. Because I'm guessing he's going to be the future Mr Carter. They've been talking more about his leg this season, so I'm wondering if we're going to get the full story on it. This is my theory, but I could be wrong.

I also hope that the network showing two episodes back to back each week has more to do with timing and wanting to finish before Agents of SHIELD return rather than them trying to burn through episodes because the ratings are too low.

I was wondering if it was due to having more episodes this season, and if they gave them the same number of weeks, but there are two more episodes, and they started later in the year, so they had to squeeze them in. I'm hoping so, anyway. Moar!

Well, I got some news today that will mean I'll be moving out of NY for the first time in over 10 years back to Boston for a year of training. Given that, I hope to finish up any lingering fics that I've either half posted or are half written in my files. It's my big fannish project for this year which I'll hopefully get to after my dissertation is officially done.
