From [livejournal.com profile] joonscribble:

1. Pick a character (either a canon character or an original character) and ask me a question about him/her/it.

2. I'll answer the question with a fic snippet.

Ooh, this sounds fun! How about:

What is Abbyverse Sarah's favorite memory of Sherlock?

This one was a bit hard, as I think a lot of the more memorable moments I've written about, so I've gone with the most unexpectedly sweet thing Sarah remembers him doing.

Best Man

"Is Sherlock okay?" Sarah asked, quietly.

"Yeah, I think he's getting his Best Man speech out of his mind palace," John replied.

Sure enough, a moment later Sherlock's eyes opened and he stood up, picking up a glass and tapping it. The room fell silent.

"Here we go," John muttered. He took her hand under the table.

"When I'm trying to order my thoughts for a case or puzzling out a problem or forcing myself to write a Best Man speech," Sherlock began. "I often compose music. It helps me sort out and organize everything I know or need to know. However, in this instance, I seem to have ended up with a song and no solution. I consulted a person in the know," he nodded toward Mrs Hudson, who smiled. "And we both decided it was probably for the best if I didn't attempt to speak at all. So, instead I'm going to play. Molly?"

Molly scurried up from the back of the room with Sherlock's violin in hand. He took it from her and she scurried away again.

"This composition is entitled 'This is Ridiculous'," Sherlock announced. He tucked the violin under his chin and began to play.

John and Sarah both started laughing, as the beginning of the song was extremely frustrated sounding, all discordant notes and stabbing, quick sounds. After about thirty seconds, it settled out into something quite nice, if still a bit hostile sounding. Then, it went into a sweeping finale, which was just plain pleasant and simple and...sort of John and Sarah sounding. Sherlock finished with a flourish, and there was an odd round of applause, uncertain from those who didn't know Sherlock and wondered if he was taking the piss, and enthusiastic from those who did know him and knew it was actually very sincere.

Sherlock bowed and sat down. "I added the last bit this morning," he said to John and Sarah. "Mrs Hudson said it was too angry." He looked to Sarah, who was wiping an unexpected tear away. "Not good?"

"No," Sarah agreed. "Brilliant."

Aaaah, omg, this is so beautiful! Sorry that it was hard, I just love seeing Sherlock do unexpectedly sweet things now and again. I was torn between asking that one and asking what was something unexpectedly nice that Sherlock did to/for Mycroft because those moments are so precious.

Anyway, I love the idea that Sherlock wrote a composition just for them with Mrs. Hudson and Molly's help, that was a lovely touch. And Sarah wiping away a tear, ohhhh so lovely. I laughed at the end when the round of applause was confused because of the people who didn't know Sherlock. But it's clear he was writing just for Sarah and John, and that's what makes it so special. Awww. Thank you! :)

Oh, good! I wavered back and forth so hard on whether it was okay, so I'm pleased you enjoyed it! I wanted it to be sappy but not too sappy, and originally he was going to speak, but that was worse, so I just decided to have him accidentally do something nice. Like, he didn't even mean to write them a song, but he sort of did, so whatever. It seemed sort of Sherlockish to take something he doesn't want to do and bend the rules to make it palatable. Don't worry about hard prompts, I enjoy a challenge. :-D

Because you've put me in this fluff pit that I can't seem to climb out of:

1) The first time Alec or Molly or both said "I love you" to the other.

2) What was Abby's birth like?

I shall happily do number one with great excitement, but two already conveniently has a fic (http://awanderingbard.livejournal.com/180701.html). Sort of. It's sort of the end of her birth, and Sherlock meeting her. I can write more of the labour if that would be more what you're looking for.

Whoa, how did I miss this fic? Thanks for pointing me toward it!

Yay for more Molly and Alec!

Because of the way I rotate through stories when I'm writing, I always get a bunch done at once. I wouldn't be surprised if you assumed it was one you already read because I posted the day before. Or two hours ago. :p

Yay for more Molly and Alec!

Getting Things Sorted

Alec loved the Sunday food markets, because they were a staple of weekends with his father. Every Sunday, Dad would wake him up early and they would go looking for ingredients to try out new dishes for dinner that night. Even after Dad remarried and Gigi and her daughters moved in and his half-siblings arrived, going to the market was a Dad and Alec thing. It was still where they went when Alec needed to discuss problems or get advice. "We'll go to the market and get you sorted, son". He found it comforting to be amongst all the colour and smells and food. It made him happy.

This Sunday, Molly was with him. She'd stayed over the night before and he'd suggested it as something to do that morning. She had her pinkie wrapped around his and held a basket over her arm for the food he picked from the stalls. She made him happy, too.

"Is everything okay?" she asked, blinking up at him.

"I love you," he said.

He wasn't sure what it was about her biting her lower lip while staring at starfruit that him so certain, but it had hit him in a sort of cricket bat to the head way.

Her eyes widened to almost comic levels for a moment, and then crinkled at the edges with a bright smile. "Oh!" she said. "Me too. I mean you. I mean, I love you, too."

Awwww! I love Molly's very Molly-ish response to Alec's declaration. It's in character but never makes her seem silly. Just completely sweet. Thanks for writing this! I'm awash with fuzzy feels now.

Thank you! I'm slightly worried about how much I've accidentally extended the Sherlock universe. I do hope when Series Three comes around, I'll still remember how to write the characters as canon.

In the meantime, this is super fun! Thanks for the great prompt.
